Ski Hire and Equipment
You will be spoilt for choice in Kaprun with numerous outlets all stocking, in our experience, modern and good quality equipment. English is widely spoken so communicating your needs should not be a problem.
Our ski hire recommendation
The biggest network of outlets is the Intersport chain (6 in Kaprun, 5 in Zell). We are big fans. A visit to the comprehensive www.servicenetwork.at is a must.
The main Intersport Bruendl shop in Kaprun is amazing. Intersport operates a great system where you can swap your hire equipment at outlets up on the slopes. So if you find that your feet are in agony after you've skied a couple of runs, you don't have to come back down to the village to get your boots changed.
Ski Dome, five minutes walk from our house, is an Intersport outlet too, so combine this with booking ski school.
Another useful facility is the ability to store your hire skis at their ski depot on the mountain (for free) to save bringing them back to the house daily - particularly useful when skiing on the glacier.
Intersport offers an advanced order service for lift pass and equipment which gives a 10% discount. Better still, it's good to know that if you have children under 10 years old and both parents rent equipment from the shop, the children get their equipment (including ski helmet) for free. Standard discount for children is 50% and 20% for youths.
The next best If you get a chance then a trip to www.salomonstation.com at the base of the Areitbahn lift in Zell am See is worth a look for equipment, sport videos, Playstation 2 and internet. If your teenagers are getting on your nerves this is a good place to keep them entertained for a few minutes! Their website's quite groovy too.
